This is Ellie Goulding's video for her cover of "Your Song" and in the midst of feeling bummed with my entire wardrobe, it's reignited my enthusiasm with autumn. The weather today is not the gorgeous fall weather we were experiencing last week which means there's no good place for outfit pictures, but tomorrow is supposed to be the end of our windy and rainy conditions. Today has not been a great day. It's cold and rainy outside, my outfit refused to photograph well, and I'm still enduring a headache I've had for nearly a week now. Can it just be Harry Potter premiere time and Thanksgiving? To cheer myself up, I'm blasting the heat and listening to some Explosions in the Sky, as well as catching up on some TV. How great is the new episode of Misfits?

I decided, in lieu of an outfit, I'd show you guys some things I'm digging for Christmas. I've been told that my family doesn't do Christmas like other families. We're not really secretive our gifts at all and last year I even ordered my own present (a pair of Toms) from my parents because they're computer inept. But when it comes to my extended family, my aunt likes to get an idea from us of what we'd like, but surprise us with our final present. I'm sending her this to show her what type of clothes I'm into at the moment.

 As you can see, I'm loving prints and more neutral colors right now. Putting this together made me want to go shopping, but I currently have eight dollars in my bank account and, obviously more importantly than money to shop, I need to buy some food and my Harry Potter tickets, but I hate asking my parents for money. So goes the life of a poor college student.

The weather has taken a chilly turn (it was 29 degrees with wind chill at the bus stop last night and Alex and I were freezing!) here in Asheville and thought the temperature is supposed to go back up, I'm excited for the endless possibilities of colored tights. (For the record, I deem anything not black colored!) These are four looks I'm going to be drawing a lot of inspiration from in the next few months as I deal with cold temperatures. 

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm looking for a few more pairs to add to my collection. My mom went to Kohl's this weekend to pick up some tights for me (thanks, Mom!) and she grabbed a pair of purple tights in addition to some new black ones. I can't wait to combine them with this gorgeous floral dress I'll be wearing tomorrow (with black tights, unfortunately! And I lost my pair without holes, which leaves me down to the ripped pair you saw in my last post.) 

i was hoping someday

Since I'm not doing anything on this (unfortunately lovely) Sunday other than writing papers and thus have no need to throw together a cute outfit, I thought I would share some of my favorite jewelry pieces.

This vintage necklace probably makes an appearance in my outfits at least once a week, not only because I have a limited supply of necklaces, but because it's fantastic. I acquired it through some sad circumstances- last year we had to move my grandmother from the regular portion of her nursing home to the Alzheimer's wing where she would receive more care. We had to get rid of a lot of her stuff as the room was much smaller. So after Christmas dinner, my cousins and everyone crowded into our basement and we sorted through the jewelry and photo albums and had a nice time bonding. I picked out this necklace, the one below, a pair of earrings that have since disappeared, and a pin with my grandmother and (deceased) grandfather's pictures.

 This necklace, as I stated above, came from my grandmother. It's actually a pin attached to a simple silver chain, but it's gorgeous, isn't it? I love crosses and when I spotted this in my grandmother's jewelry, I knew I had to have it.

This is my initial necklace, which was a graduation present from someone I love dearly. You can't really tell because of the lighting, but my initials are ERK. It's a piece I don't get to wear often because it doesn't really fit in with my wardrobe, but I love wearing it because of the sentiment behind it.

I just got this ring about two weeks ago and I've worn it at least a dozen times since. I love that it's simple but also interesting. I ordered it through a Premiere Designs jewelry party at the beginning of August so by the time I got it earlier this month, I'd nearly forgotten about it and it was such a big improvement to my wardrobe blues.

 

This was my first foray into statement rings and while I don't wear it much, it's still one of my favorite pieces because it's so fun! It's a great piece to add to an otherwise boring outfit.

A note about my rings: I wear all of my rings, excluding those that are stretchy like the black one pictured above, on the index finger of my left hand for two reasons. One, because I'm in between sizes in terms of ring size and I have a difficult time finding rings that fit my ring finger. And two, because up until it broke about two weeks ago, I had a nazar bracelet I basically never took off and I hated wearing a ring on the same hand as my bracelet. I'm looking for another simple nazar bracelet right not but the one I wore I'd purchased at a Greek festival two years ago so I doubt I will find one identical. :(

And another note about my nails: I just realized this, but as it might be obvious, I have tiny unfortunate nails due to the fact that I'm a compulsive nail biter. I also chew off my nail polish which means the color changes almost every other day. I coincidentally have the same color on from my last post!

long time no post

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Grace Potter and the Nocturnals at the Orange Peel (which is a great venue, I can't wait to go back for Cold War Kids in December) and I was so impressed. I'd honestly never heard them and the only real reason I went was because I had a free ticket from a friend who wanted someone to go with him, but I'm so glad I went. They had so much energy and soul and passion, it was amazing to watch.

And Grace Potter? She is a goddess (of both music and fashion.) Her voice is incredible and her presence on stage more than filled up the room. When the music started, she came out on stage dancing in a short white dress with ruffles, a thick belt, and a sequined black cardigan. She stripped the cardigan after the first song and let me tell you, I fell in love with her dress. It had choice robe style sleeves that flowed beautifully as she moved on stage. It wasn't until near the end of the set that I realized all of the dancing? She did in four inch heels. I have never wanted to be someone more in my life. I think we'd all be lucky if we had just a portion of her talent and confidence.
